Keep Playing. Without the pain, tension or doubt.

For adult guitarists dealing with hand pain, tension, or stiffness: a body-smart method built on 18 + years of movement practice.

The Gentle Octaves Method

Release → Reset → Rebuild

A simple way to move from “something isn’t working” towards more comfortable, sustainable playing.

01RELEASE

Create some space.

Reduce unnecessary effort

Ease unnecessary tension, guarding or load enough to create a more workable starting point.

02RESET

Find a better option.

Explore what works better

Experiment with movement, setup and playing choices that reduce effort or improve control.

03REBUILD

Make it sustainable.

Build capacity

Develop the strength, endurance, coordination and playing tolerance needed for real musical demands.

It isn’t a one-way ladder. Release, Reset and Rebuild can overlap, repeat and change as your playing and your body change.

About Gentle Octaves

I’m a guitarist and movement specialist with a background in psychology, rehabilitation, physical training and manual osteopathy.Gentle Octaves grew from seeing the same problem from both sides. When something starts getting in the way of playing, guitarists are often left choosing between vague advice to “fix their posture”, generic stretches, or information so clinical that it barely connects to making music.I wanted something more useful.Start with what’s actually getting in the way. Make one sensible change. Notice how your body responds. Then build from there. That became Release → Reset → Rebuild. The aim isn’t perfect posture or pretending every ache has a simple fix. It’s to help you understand your playing, make better choices, adapt when things change, and keep music part of your life.
